I received my passport in the mail. They got my birthdate wrong. Then I picked up my birth certificate that I had sent in with the application. Turns out my parents have been celebrating my birthday on the wrong day for 16 years.

Looks like you'll b getting a hell of a sweet 16 party. Like another bar...i mean bat (....unless the OP secretly is a transexual with a chood, in that case YDI cause you cant have sex with yourself) mitzvah. And if your parents dont... beat their ass. At least now all your friends will always think you look older than u really are. which means no complements on how "young" you look.

Ok I have a very important question... Is Noname a guy or girl? Also how old are there!? Because they have this quote issued under a woman and then she's got another quote under as a guy who said their girlfriend dumped them because she wanted someone more like their Edward (Twilight Edward) Idk look up the quote it's issued under a man then she says here she's only like what 16? She's got another one issued as a mom with a daughter. The quote goes something like this, "Today, my daughter asked me when I first had sex, I told her 22 and she replying "haha beat ya!" She's 13..." So ya Some of these are fake... But which ones? :0 Btw don't get all pissy at me, don't start whining I'm just stating some facts so ya... Idk you tell me.

no worries, up until i was 13 years old, my parents said my bday was on june 13th

then one day, i found my birth certificate and it said june 11th on it, so i showed my dad, and he was silent and said, "bring me your passport." a full minute later of just staring, he goes, "oh well, ok ur birthday is the 11th."

and we still dont celebrate it =/ we never did. so be happy ur family celebrated your fake bday!

My mom calls me on the day before my birthday every year. I used to get really upset and we would have arguments that would escalate into fights because she swears she's right. All my documents and my sister's, who were around when I was born say she's not. A few year's ago I finally just gave up and graciously receive the birthday wishes a day early. Deep down I still hope she'll call on the right day one year.

Feb 10, 2009
03:57 AM

Maybe - if they celebrate it one day earlier - you were born round midnight or later so on the next day, but they remember the date when your mom's had to go to the hospital to deliver you! It's like when you're at a party and you still call "yesterday" "today" cause it's past midnight but you didn't go to bed so for you it's still the same day.

I don't see what the big deal is. Sure, it sounds kind of messed up, but at least the birthday was celebrated, and your parents clearly care about you even if they got the date wrong. Besides, you yourself had never checked your exact birth date in sixteen years, why should your parents have done so?

Birth certificates have mistakes on them all the time. I was born 2:49 AM but my certificate says 2:49 PM. I know it's wrong because my mom said it was a 6-hour labor that she went into while my parents were at a movie the previous evening.

Feb 21, 2009
01:38 AM

What's the big deal?

This whole idea that birthdays are important at all is just something that's come about this century. And in the grand scheme of things it's a pretty arbitrary date which we don't remember and have no control over anyway. You got a party every year, shouldn't that be enough?

I was adopted by relatives who were Fundamentalist Christians. They didn't even celebrate my birthday. Or Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, or any other day. My happiest times growing up were going AWAY to summer camp for a week. Then when I was 15, I was out on the street. FNL

Aw, that sucks.
My mum named me Cooper-Alyssa Jayne but on my birth certificate is says Copper Alyssa, so thanks to someone's screw up, and her laziness to change it, I'm named after a chemical element, yay.

It's also says I have a different father to my brother which isn't true, we are in fact full brother and sister and unfortunately have the same douche bag father.

But like a lot of people have said it's probably not your parents fault.

That's not FNL so much as LOL.

I've had a similar situation. My mother went into the hospital and was in labor (dialating etc) about 32 hours. She had me around three am the next morning, so that was my birthday.

Sometimes, time differences or labor times alter the date of birth. Also, I agree with, I believe waaaaaay up there, too lazy to hunt it back down, the office could have been having difficulties as well. Your birthday is still important to your family, so kudos! You got that much, now all you can do is just laugh it off. When you celebrate and when it happens doesn't really matter.

Kind of like how if you have a big family, and you celebrate thanksgiving twice or something cuz of two families (Such as if you have two grandparents on both sides (mother and father), Christmas (or Hanuka (Sorry for the horrible spelling) or Kwanza). It's not really important what day it is, so long as it's recognized.

Still.

LOL dude that's awesomesauce.

#55- why the hell would she need her birth certificate to apply for a job? That is what a social security card is for, at least in America. Your parents take care of the birth certificate when you enroll in elementary school, so you wouldn't really have a need to see your birth certificate until you are getting your driver's license. Even then, I doubt if everyone reads their birth certificate when they pull it out. You just assume there is nothing new for you to learn from reading it. It makes sense that you would not notice a discrepancy on your birth certificate until you notice it on your passport-a passport is new documentation that you would read over to make sure everything is correct.

Yeah, I can't say that I'd expect most mothers to be too intent on remembering the day of the birth of their child, a day racked with pain and stress and agony.
Add into the mix that the mother is usually hopped up on epidurals and other meds (when actually going into labor) and may have only a partial idea of what's going on and it's not an event that's easily remembered.

At least you're not like the guy who got his birth certificate eaten by a goat, so he has no idea how old he is.

That must really suck. Oh well, at least now you know you wasted more days of your life then you thought. Just celebrate it normally from now on, or, celebrate it like you always did. Your birthday is your birthday but when you celebrate it doesn't matter, people celebrate their birthday weeks from their actual birthday because its just conveniant.

You're not really that "effed". They still celebrated a birthday. Anyway, the passport date, I'm pretty sure comes from your birth certificate. In a lot of places, they actually get the date on the birth certificate wrong, for various reasons. Either that, or your birth certificate is a fake. If you're an immigrant, there's actually a good chance of that. (No offense to anyone.) I would ask your parents about it. If the birth certificate is right, now you just get two birthdays! At least, that's they way I would play the situation.

That's virtually impossible! There's no way that any of you (you or your parents) could have gotten away with registering you for a passport, school, job, whatever, without showing a birth certificate at least a few times. Then you'd have to write your birth date somewhere and sometime over those 16 years someone would have noticed that the two didn't match up. It's a good FNL and I don't mean to be an asshole, just I don't think it deserves to be the top one if it's a made up story. Unless you, you're family, and everyone around you are a bunch of morons and you are accepting that...In which case FYL indeed.

Why is everyone like 'how did you not know?' I never needed to look at my birth certificate when I was 16. My mom enrolled me, cause minors can't enroll themselves. You can't get a license or permit UNTIL you're 16. Most places won't hire people under 18. So, I highly doubt there'd be alot of situations where you would be forced to see your birth certificate.

But that really does suck. How can your parents NOT know the day they popped you out? It's not like its a painless short thing. Labor can take DAYS and yea...passing a watermelon out of your...yea, doesn't seem like something anyone can forget. Lmfao

Somehow, I don't think that your mom would forget the day that she pushed you out. I'm willing to be that the birth date was a typographical error on the part of the person who typed it up. It happens more frequently than people realize. My last name has been altered drastically through the past few generations due to birth certificate errors. Even my birth certificate had an error. The form that my mom sent in had an e on the end of my middle name, but that was no e when the actual certificate came in. My mom noticed it, but didn't think it was important enough to have it changed. Maybe your parents just didn't notice the error.

That was kinda funny to read, though I suspect I would?ve gotten really pissed it it was me whose parents had celebrated my birthday on the wrong day for 16 years, or in my case 19 years. However, I do agree with #388.

my dad got my sisters middle name wrong on her birth certificate. It was supposed to be "Claire" but we have been informed its actually "Clare" which is apparently pronounced "klaar"
thats her new nickname

what the fuck man this one is stupid. How is this the number one FNL on the site? really? how insignificant is the actual day you were born?? please take this off moderators this should not be number one.

My name is jesus christ and the religion that believes in me has been celebrating my birthday on december 25th but i was really born in November. FNL

You don't hear jesus bitching over the wrong birthday, you can just consider yourself to be in elite company.

Now that I think about it, I didn't even know where I was born until I recently found my baby photo album with my birth certificate. Turns out I was actually born in Orange County. I don't know how that happened.
